MONETIZING YOUR WEBSITES OR BLOGS
“Managing intellectual assets has become the single most important task of business.”
---Thomas A. Stewart
It’s time we monetized our blogs and website! The truth is not far from the understanding that talent management is crucial in the workplace if there’s going to be tremendous, tangible corporate benefits. Of course, I mean profit. There is a paradigm shift right now from ‘My website is excessively expensive’ to ‘my website makes pretty profit.’ What’s the point having a website you cannot harness to
make money for you? I understand you don’t see the need to monetize your websites or your blogs for personal gains. How about using the profits for charitable works. Think about it alongside The Parable of The talent.
Business leaders have monetized their websites and blogs because they have as capital their writing skills and depth in their field of interest. Can you write very well? You should consider
blogging to the bank.
Monetizing your website or blog is engaging or engrossing your blogs with tools, or gadget which may be in form of html codes or otherwise, attractive enough not to only encourage readership, but stimulate visitors (to your website) to buy your products or advertisers’ products…Remember, you are the publisher, and your intent is to make money from all the advertisers on your blog. Perhaps you are wondering you don’t have the goose, let alone the golden eggs .Ha-ha! You shouldn’t say that at the rooftop. You know why? You sure sounded like an alien; this article is for you, anyway.
A couple of them are ready to pop out from your browser if you want a website or a blog; they come FREE, and these days a few bucks($) from your wallet will be enough for a year. Did I say FREE? Oh yes! FREE. I will advice you start out free. This is one of the requirements for making money from the internet. Follow me.
Prerequisite for Monetizing your Blog or Websites
1. Designing Your Identity
2. Developing content
3. Drafting the plugs-in
4. Delivering diligently
5. Driving traffic to your blog or website
Designing Your Identity
By identity, I mean giving your website a name. The name you sign up or register your blog with should not be inspired by the high school or college name you were called. The key to designing your identity is in doing a keyword research on the backdrop of your line of interest say Personal Finance, games, to mention a few. Are you asking:
What is Keyword? The objective of Keyword research is to start a niche less competitive. This gives you a better chance to get top ranking in Google search, and ultimately traffic to your website or blog is increased. To do this research, various keyword research tools are available. I just got Market Samurai which I’m understudying. You can use a free one from Google Adword. You might find it hard getting to the Google Adword page for your research. Just type ‘
Google Keyword tool’ into the Google search box; you will find on No.1 ranking of the search result, the tool. Click on the link, and you are on the page. When you type a keyword, the result comes with its search analysis: the Global Monthly Search (GMS) and the local Monthly search (of the country you directed the keyword to).Keyword with GMS less than 40,000 population is good for a target. You can design or create your identity around such keyword. By identity, I mean choosing a name for your website. As much as you want to brand your work, avoid the temptation of using a name that speaks nothing about the keyword. For instance, your keyword is Property Tax; you can choose a website or blog like
www.info-propertytax.blogspot.com. The name speaks volume. You can get a free blog from
www.blogger.com, or
www.wordpress.com. I advise you start with a free blog to experiment. However, you can get good, cheap website with less than $10, too.
Developing Your Content
Don’t forget the title of this article is Monetizing Your Website or Blog. That is our aim; generation of traffic to your website is key to monetizing the site, and content is king in this business. Create a distinct content around the keyword of your interest. Every keyword has a unique language. You have to know your target audience, and speaking the language of your audience is paramount to success. You don’t set up a blog on kid’s fun activities, and write in a language fit for professors in Physics. That’s a failure before the start! More than 60% of internet users are hungry for information, and don’t usually have the luxury of time to read lengthy, clumpsy articles; making it brief and on point is vitally important.
Bringing the WOW-HOW factor to your content (articles) is good.WOW-HOW, right? This concept is used when writing Sales page or copywriting. The WOW means Entice, and the HOW engages your audience to take action. Please, avoid enticing your readers into something that is unreal and a lie. This is a sure way to lose prospective followers for your blog. When they discover it’s a lie you used as bait for reading your article, you might not see them around again. Look at this example:
Buy a Skytex mp4,e-book reader with less than $5
Is this title not fascinating enough? The reader’s delight is stimulated instantly because it’s pretty cheap. He wants to know how to get it. That will then take you to engaging the reader to take action.
Always endeavour your articles have backlinks.Backlinks …..will generate traffic to your content.
Delivering Diligently
One of the challenges of maintaining a blog or website is keeping your content coming to your site. That is why having a writing plan will always help your diligence. The secret to delivering diligently is in seeing your website or blog as a Magazine business. You know you have to publish daily or weekly. It will be tough at the beginning. Not to worry, when a few coins start to roll into your account, you’d be motivated to keep up the pace. I remembered the first time ,I saw $2.89 in my Google Adsense account, having published 2 articles to my blog( www.netspring.blogspot.com ) , I shouted ,’I broke the code’, and ran up in 37seconds a height of over 11 metres in excitement. How much more do you think 10 articles in 2 weeks will produce?
Imagine you publish 3 articles per week, each targeting a particular keyword, with a little above 20,000 Global Monthly Searches. At the end of the month, you have 12 articles, 12 keywords, 12 streams of visitors, hence 240,000 visitors to your blog. If you are able to convert 0.5% of the monthly visitors to click the Google Advert (now called Adchoices), you will have 240,000 page views and 1200 clicks. Assume the CPC (Cost per Click) is $0.40. Work the Arithmetic .1200 visitors clicked on Google Advert X CPC of $0.40 = $480 per month. I bet you this is a good start.
